Red Cedar Shingles

With its reddish hue and distinctive aroma, Western red cedar has exceptional properties of durability, character, and natural beauty. Like white cedar, it is available natural or factory-finished.

Unlike white cedar shingles, which are graded according to the type of imperfection, red cedar shingles are graded according to wood grain.

We are an authorized SBC Cedar Shingle Distributor.

Grades:

R&R No 1
Re-squared and Re-butted red cedar (R&R) No 1 is the highest quality of this type of shingle. It is vertical grain, 100% heartwood and has no imperfections. It is used primarily as a siding.

Perfection No 1
Used for siding and roofing, Perfection No 1 (Blue Label) has a regular cut (un-squared), has vertical grain, is 100% heartwood and has no imperfections.

Perfection No 2
Installed for both roofing and siding, Perfection No 2 (Red Label) has a regular cut (un-squared), mixed grain and has no imperfections on the surface exposed to the weather (5 1/2 in).

Finishes:

Solid
We apply exclusively premium 100% acrylic stain on SBC’s red cedar shingles. Only two coats are required to obtain a rich and uniform solid coating*.

Weathering Agents
Weathering agents provide excellent protection the wood while giving it a natural weathered look upon installation. Bleaching oil will give the shingles a pale gray tint while Weathering stain will give them a more intense gray. Weathering agents will accelerate the weathering process depending on the exposure to the element.

Naturaltone Cedar
Olympic Maximum® oil-based toner penetrates wood for a light, natural cedar-like tint and some protection.*

Semi-Transparent
Semi-transparent finish tints the surface* while revealing the authenticity of real wood. It provides limited UV protection.
